Unit 12 - Feature Film - Year 2

Task 1 Research

My role I choose for this project this year is the Sound Recordist/Foley Artist since I have always had a somewhat of interest in the practice and also a camera operator for my second choice for my freeway just in case but I doubt the role I have would have many applicants but of course I can wrong. Below will be a document I created which is a Fact Sheet of the role I wanted with a successful person in that role and also potential wages and the path it could make for me in the future, also the letter of application I sent for the role 







I have also made a Media CV and a Letter of Application which I made in Canvas in which I will also upload below. 






The Coming of Age Drama 

 This type of genre media genre all has some plot points that connect them together some of them are as follows virginity and friendship  and also the exploration of sexuality amongst other things, the way we will incorporate these kind plot points through the actions of the cast where they all band together to support the main character through a tough time. Another reason how I can use the code of conventions through my role which is Sound Recordist would be focusing on the sounds that really bring home a scene  to really push what we are trying to say through the actors, for example the Heart beat getting louder and louder in the appointment scene to empathises how on edge and stunned Jack is due to the news he receives . Another thing that I can incorporate my understanding of the code of conventions into my role would be trying to to somewhat mimic other coming of age shows that inject in a sense into this short film. Another thing that typically happens in Coming of age dramas that they all are in the age range of 16 to 18.

Task 2 

The Role I have been given for this project is Sound recordist which is the role that I signed up for, a reason why this my be the case is that no one else tried for the role but that's fine, my responsibilities for this role is helping out with the sound so its comprehensible to listen to plus helping out doing Foley and making Soundscapes for the scenes and also helping find the soundtrack for the short film. My Tasks for this project so far have been going over the Script and jotting down all the sounds we can create through Foley, for example The Doctor scene where Jack hears of the news you can hear the light above him gradually get louder we created this by finding a object that emits that sound in this case it was an object on the door of the green screen room in the college. A member of the team that works closely with me that could help my work is Aleeshah since she is the other person working in Sound specifically Foley so her helping out could mean a lot in the long run there role is the Foley Artist but we can help each other out when we can.

Peer Review 

 









In this review they have stated that my strengths are my ability to take initiative and that I am good at organisation and sharing my ideas on and off set, they also stated my improvements for the future  is when getting provided suggestions and getting input from other team members try to think it as constructive and not taking it so personally.  I agree with this statement due to fact i had this issue for a while now since I'm not the best of person when it comes with proper communication in that regard i will take what I have learnt from this review and try to improve upon it to become a better film maker and a better worker overall.   


Midpoint Evaluation

What have I excelled at in your role in this project? 

I have excelled at being where I need to be on set and fulfilling it to a standard worthy of this project. For example not wasting valuable time on set and doing my job in the allotted time.

What are your weakest moments in your opinion?  

    I would say my equipment at times has gone missing for twice on set which can be improved upon.

How can you continue to develop throughout the rest of this project?

Remember where your equipment is at all times when needed and provide valuable information to the rest of the crew to improve the quality of the film in general.

 Evaluation

As production comes to as close I personally feel we did well in turns of scheduling and filming although we did have a couple of slip ups but some where out of our hands for example there were days that disrupted filming since it was pouring with snow or even some of the actors we need did not arrive and we did not have necessary props for the job that day.  Personally I think this project has gone better than it did when we did Counterpunch, the reason I think this for one the script is a little bit better in my opinion and a another thing we did better was that we were given more time to prepare so that helped out since it gave enough time so the shots could look better and in turn make the final product better  overall. One thing I could improve on for my FMP which is my next project and also my last at College would be to learn how use the gimble and fully utilise it since I want to branch out more and do something way out of my comfort zone, throughout my time here on this course the one equipment I don't feel I somewhat know is the camera which is odd since that should be the first considering its a film course, I will send the YouTube link to the final product and also the trailer.
