TV Studio production - Unit 7

Lesson 1

What is Studio Production?

Studio Production is a set in where the filming is made in a controlled environment

Studio bases productions : BBC news, Grand tour, Friends, 8 out of ten cats, the chase, who wants to be a millionaire, dragons den,

Live: BBC news

Live to tape: Grand Tour, The Chase, Who wants to be a millionaire, Jeremy Kyle

Pre produced: Friends, dragon den,

Lesson 2

Advantages of studio locations are:

It is just one location so no hassle moving around

Lighting is always in one place

The Weather

It is in a controlled environment

Sound

Time Management

No Public interference

 It is less expensive

Time of Day

Disadvantages of Studio Locations

Restricted Environment

Set limitations

Not cinematic

Restrictions on the camera

Task 1

The most important elements in studio production is firstly Location, the reason for this is that it can have both positive and negative things that will the effect your production for example it in one location all the time it is cheaper to make, you wont be affected by outside weather and the lights and sound is already rigged so you just need to move it to where you need it too but the disadvantage's to having inside studio would be that its somewhat fixed to the studio that location so you cant you be creative with the story. The reason Location is important to a studio is that it saves a lot of time since you might make the crew and actors drive long distances since its not where they live.  I can fulfil this element by keeping the set in one location and keeping all there.

Another Important element to consider in studio production would be Security, the reason for this is that if a entire set is in one location, you don't want just want anyone just walking in which they could harm the cast, crew or the surrounding staff, also they could possibly take the equipment in which is thousands of pounds each so a tight security is important for production, you could fulfil by asking someone to keep a look out just in case of an event from occurring.

Lastly Another Element so consider in studio production would be Sound, the reason for this is that you don't want any outside noise when filming something like a motorbike in the distance or even the sound of a car going by so when on a film studio sound proofing is good since without it the final product it would be lacklustre a way to solve this is just to make the area you are in quiet as possible so when it starts recording ever sound is heard.

Task 2

In a project we are going to make a Football match in which the Students in our film class and some others will be the players how we came up the idea started with sort of match of the day vibe to in which people in our group will talk about the match and be the commenters throughout but then later decided to create our own match and film it and let them commentate and even add some interviews in the half to be make it look like a real match. Of course even if its a perfect replication of a match but doing a local match, filming it and providing commentary is a good idea.

Well that was the main idea that we had but due to complications over money, the weather and some other things also we didn't quite anticipate the problems that could arise from such an idea. So with a chat with the rest of the group, we had to scrap that idea, but luckily we came up with a backup idea just in case and decided to go with that one instead, in which the idea was a podcast idea in which the host and the guest talk about a varied sort of topics like Star Wars, South Park  and just about anything they could actively talk about for a long time, although we would of done the podcast for longer we kept it 10 minutes since we suspected that everyone else did the same, we came for this idea from the Foley project in which we did a podcast then for a task so we would expand from that and make a new episode in which is called the Barbados Podcast.

Task 3

Although we had to change the idea on what we made for the project we still had some paperwork for the
football match  so i will include all the Football paperwork and the Podcast paperwork separately so you will not get confused if someone looked at them together

The Plan document

 - This is a photo of the document that we did the overall plan on what we wanted to do for the football match for example camera shots, number players etc

Podcast Paperwork

  - Equipment List

 - Podcast Prop List

  - Podcast Script

Task 4

Here is the finished product of the Podcast that we made.

My role within the creation of the video above is that I was one of the camera operators and the light operator, in which i was talked with the role of maintaining the video so that it remains on since it refreshes after the 10 minute mark, another task was i was given for the project is that I was given commands so the host and guest know hen to start and stop. Lastly my last role was to check on the light so its not in the frame of the main wide shot go pro camera but also making sure that the lights are not quite blinding, The other people in my group was Oliver in which the office the video was based in was his but also, the equipment was his also since he uses his equipment for a podcast of his own for the company he works for. Harry in which took place within the video helped with the editing alongside Oliver who knows the overall process of it all, lastly Robert in which helped in the creation of the logo alongside everyone else on Canva and became the host of the Podcast.

These images are of me and other members of my group making the podcast where as shown above is of myself operator one camera and one other being operated by Oliver who is taking the photo

Task 5 - Evaluation

Overall looking back on when the Studio Project started I think it went alright despite a couple of mishaps in which we fixed rather well, starting with the idea of the football match with Oliver leading the charge with the thought of recording a live football match with commentators, at the beginning it was a good idea since if we where to pull it off it would look really good in the final shoot. When we began figuring out the idea more with the Plan document being made describing who would be on the teams, where the pitch was and where the multi cameras would be positioned, however in hindsight we didn't quite take any contingency plans on if any bad things where to go bad, for example the weather since if we didn't bring umbrellas all the tech could be destroyed in the process in which was Oliver personal equipment or someone important does not sure up for the shooting since if no one was on the cameras we would not have the footage we would have wanted. Something we did not see before hand was the location in where the match was held in which we had to all individually pay 6 pound each for an 1 hour on the field. After learning of this and looking at the pros and cons on making the football match we decided to drop the idea and go with the backup idea we came with when making the Plan document, The Podcast idea was fairly good since we found a place to shoot it and made ideas of what to say but in retrospect a script would haven been better, we came into the office we completed the filming in hour or so with Robert being the host and Harry being the guest of the episode. After completing the production stage we began with the Post production in which the editing started, where it took at couple of days to complete and with minor tweaking to the audio to make it sound better. If i had to say what went well was the efficiency of it all since we created fairly quicker than I originally expected,  What would be fixed in the future would be I would like to be better at editing since it would be help overall since i can carry on the skills to a future project.
